Why don't they start a literacy program that provides quality books that parents can read with their children? The program would start at the birth of the child and run for say 10 years, during which time the parents can buy really good children's books (as well as non-chick lit novels) at heavily subsidized prices, just click and tada, the book would be shipped to their house. They'd never run out of books, they can just order a new one when the last is nearing its end!

Chick lit isn't necessarily bad but literature does appeal more to me... but I ain't a chick so I suppose it doesn't count. :)

They don't have to start a program. They're basing all of that on 6,000 women? Out of how many more mom's out there? ;-)
Most do get children's books in this regard.
I think in reality tho', most mom's don't read at all unless its to their kids
I'm a 'chick' and I hate that crap. That's right. I said it. Chick-lit is crap!
:p

I've never really been a fan of it, mostly because the female characters in those books usually are either whiny victims or get-a-man-focused. I prefer much more intelligent love stories.

As far as the 6,000 number though, if you get an actual random sample, 6,000 is plenty to infer quite a bit about a much larger population. The problem is in getting a sample that is truly random.
