The Telegraph picks books for their list cause nothing gets people riled up faster than omitting their favorite book from a best of list.

The really good stories are often true ones, stories of real people that somehow touch us enough to change our lives in some way, or at least make us think deeply about our individual worlds. Here are five memoirs that inspired Marie Arana. Which life stories, if any, have offered you food for thought?

Over on Ready Steady Book, they had a ‘books of the year’ round-up a while back, where authors, critics, editors, bloggers and the literary like chose the books that made their year…and in some cases those that didn’t. Not all of these choices were published in 2007, which is what makes it interesting. You’re likely to find some jewels that haven’t hit the headlines here.

All the new stuff in all the genres. A comprehensive guide to worthy curl-up-in-front-of-the-fire reads this season. Also with cover illustrations—a nice touch.

I’m not a huge manga fan myself, but for those Wordsy people who are, here’s a list of ten of the best manga works of 2007. I’m sure there are some titles fans could add to this list.
