The 'Lord of the Rings' film trilogy has raked in billions for others, but for the heirs of beloved author and creator J.R.R. Tolkien, nothing.
"Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne." And not one ducat for the guy who created it all. Stinks.

Film "accounting" is always dodgy. This isn't unusual.
Nevertheless, I think it's a shame that the Tolkien children feel they have a right to collect any money at all. Frankly, I think copyright should cease with the author's death. Writing a book isn't a sinecure. And definitely not for your children. Copyright is supposed to be an incentive to create. The Tolkien children aren't creating anything. Nada.
